Successful appearance at the GaLaBau trade fair 2024

A resounding success for FormaTurf, Polytan und SYNLawn: we presented new products, innovations and solutions to our visitors at a joint stand at this year's GaLaBau trade fair in Nuremberg. With an interactive display, we were able to offer interested parties a virtual tour of our FormaTurf facility and present our latest recycling products made from old artificial turf.

FormaTurf Boards at the Fanzone Berlin

On 14 July 2024, the 2024 European Footbal Championship in Germany came to an end. All over Germany people could gather in the city square or fan zones to cheer on their favorite teams. The Fan Mile in Berlin was certainly a highlight among viewing spots. In front of the Brandenburg Gate, 24,000 square metres of artificial turf was installed by SYNLawn with the support of Polytan, two of our sister companies. FormaTurf Boards were laid under the artificial turf around the entire fan mile to level out tripping hazards on the kerbs and traffic islands. These FormaTurf Boards were made from old artificial turf and made an important contribution to one of the biggest football parties of the year.

We recycle all the components of an artificial turf system: we separate the materials with little effort and reuse them in the only high-tech recycling process of its kind. FormaTurf gives recycled materials a “second life”, processing them into useful new plastic products and individual customer solutions for the construction of sports pitches, as well as a wide variety of applications in the landscaping, construction and industrial sectors.

FormaTurf is part of the Sport Group, a major, established provider of sports flooring systems. For many years, the group has been using the Green Technology approach to develop sustainable concepts for products with an improved ecological footprint, all of which are researched, developed, installed and maintained in-house, and now also recycled in-house by FormaTurf. FormaTurf closes the material cycle.

Separation

If necessary, the components of the artificial turf system are separated with little effort and using high technology. However, the advantage of the FormatURF recycling concept is a significantly lower separation requirement compared to conventional methods. Because we can recycle all building materials.

Circular Economy

We develop and sell customised and series-ready product solutions made from recycled plastic for trade, industry and local authorities. Artificial turf is reused as a new product in the construction of sports facilities or in other sectors.

Recirculation

Thanks to specialised processing, sand that is not required for developing new products can be returned to sports field construction and the construction industry.

Recycling

We mould all artificial turf components into new products using an ideal combination of conventional recycling methods and specially developed mechanical and chemical processes.

Deconstruction

The artificial turf is dismantled quickly, reliably and efficiently using specialised equipment and various processes and then transported to the FormaTurf factory.

In the field of mechanical recycling, we are able to separate mixed materials, recycle them and reprocess them into new products. For us, recycling artificial turf means separating and recycling all the components of a complex artificial turf system (including the infill granules and sand).

From raw materials in artificial turf and sports surfaces to new products

Fair Play, even in extra time

We and our partners know how to develop sustainable new products from the raw materials in artificial turf and sports flooring. That’s because we think ahead to the recycling and reuse of the materials in the development of our turf systems. To us, old artificial turf is not waste, but a valuable raw material. For several years, our development team has been working on a portfolio for the construction and landscaping sector, and other products are in the pipeline. As well as the above-lifted products, we also offer custom products in recycled plastic. Our engineers will be happy to work with you to realise tailor-made product and application ideas, and manufacture them at our plant in Essen.

FormaTurf also develops white-label products for traders (e.g. construction material traders) or purchasing groups.

Recycling is a home turf for us

Our recycling plant started operations in Germany in 2022. The site in Essen has excellent infrastructure in the state with the highest population density (North Rhine-Westphalia). We are located in the heart of Germany, meaning we are within easy reach of all our customers.
